The Uithoornlijn is a new section of the Amsterdam tram network that connects the municipality of Uithoorn with Amsterdam. The number of public transport users in the Amsterdam region, which includes Uithoorn, has increased in recent years and is expected to continue to rise. The public transport network is currently being further expanded on behalf of the Amsterdam Transport Region (VRA) in order to ensure good accessibility to the region in the future. One of the developments includes the extension of the refurbished Amstelveenlijn to the centre of Uithoorn. This involves a new, high-quality tram line that is more reliable and sustainable than the current bus lines. 

Currently, Mott MacDonald works as system integrator and project manager for the interlocking system. In the past, Mott MacDonald has also prepared specifications for the level crossings and worked as contract and technical manager for the municipality of Amsterdam.
