New course in CME track
In Q4, there is a try-out course available for max of 6 students. The try-out course "Structural Health Monitoring for smart infrastructure" is offered as a 5EC Capita Selecta course, and will be part of the CME track next year. The course is taught by Dr. Ing. Roland Kromanis and Dr. Irina Stipanovic.
If you are a student interested in structural mechanics, statistics, if you have experience with Matlab and if you are in the Netherlands at this moment, this course could be interesting for you! Due to the maximum number of students for this try-out course, it is necessary to apply for it.
Why following this course?
The course focuses on structural health monitoring (SHM) for smart civil infrastructures. You will be introduced to (i) state-of-the-art of structural health monitoring, (ii) advances and developments in sensor technologies, (iii) technical aspects of structural health monitoring, materials and structural identification, and (iv) methodologies and algorithms for measurement collection. You will also have hands-on measurement collection activity of a civil structure and work on real-world data analysis.
The Structural Health Monitoring course is a multidisciplinary course. combining materials science, structural engineering and data analytic. The course consists of strengthening and synthesizing key aspects of structural engineering, including, idenSficadon of environmental loading on structures, performance modelling of construction materials.
For more in-depth information, please contact Roland or Irina! If you are already enthusiastic to follow this try-out course in Q4, please let me know by sending an e-mail, at the latest by 5 April 2021, to coordinator-ce@utwente.nl.
The course will focus also on computer vision-based monitoring. Roland gives a short demonstration in the video below.
The course will also cover monitoring of concrete and steel materials in bridges exposed to aggressive envorionment. Example of corrosion monitoring demo site for bridge exposed to marine environment:
