[Master students] WCM Summer School

Registration for the annual WCM Summer School in Maintenance Management & Engineering for young professionals and technical Master, PDEng or PhD students is open again. The impact of COVID-19 on our entire society is still as great as ever, but together with our partners, we want to continue to set the tone with educational and networking activities that can help our maintenance industry further, even in these difficult times.

We are therefore currently preparing for the 10th WCM Summer School in which we will, of course, respect the Covid-19 measures. As well as last August, we will physically organise this Summer School in Stroe. In the unlikely event that physical organisation is not possible due to Covid-19 measures, the WCM Summer School will be postponed or cancelled. Where possible, we will use additional support from quick tests and digital tools.

We would like to bring this invitation to your personal attention because the WCM Summer School may be of interest to students at your educational institution.

Practical
The WCM Summer School will be organised from Monday 26 until Friday 30 July 2021 at the General-Major Kootkazerne in Stroe. We are looking for Master, PDEng and PhD students who are following a technical study programme, but also (academic) Bachelor students with a fitting profile, the right motivation and a special interest in Maintenance Management & Engineering.

Interested persons can register before 1 June for participation in this special Summer School. We will select the best candidates from all applications.

Programme
The programme will be given by professors from seven Dutch universities. Based on recent insights into smart maintenance, topics such as big data, human factors, performance-based contracting and life cycle costing are important elements that are elaborated in the five-day series of workshops, a unique case study - this year with Heijmans (in cooperation with Sweco) - accompanying company visit and a leadership training.

Case Heijmans (in cooperation with Sweco)
he case for this year's WCM Summer School develops around the maintenance of intelligent traffic flow (DaeS) in the municipalities of Enschede and Almelo and offers interesting opportunities and challenges towards smart maintenance.

DaeS (safe, sustainable and smart traffic flow as a service) concerns cooperation between Almelo, Enschede, Heijmans and Sweco. In this partnership, Heijmans and Sweco are responsible for converting the desired traffic flow policy of the municipalities into actual performance on the street. To this end, Heijmans and Sweco make agreements in advance regarding the desired performance and the available budget.

This year's case will therefore develop around the traffic flow systems that need to be maintained. The recently intensified cooperation (20-year contract) between Heijmans, Sweco and the municipalities of Enschede and Almelo offers interesting opportunities and challenges on the road to smart maintenance.

The case for the participants during the 10th WCM Summer School is to think about how Heijmans and Sweco, together with its stakeholders, can use some of the available maintenance innovations to improve the maintenance (contract) performance of the traffic flow systems.

Unique perspective
The WCM Summer School distinguishes itself because of the unique multidisciplinary perspective on maintenance, working on a real case, the guidance by top professors in this field and the mix of promising Master, PDEng and PhD students, but also young professionals. The contacts made here are often the basis for a valuable network.

The financial contribution for students is from € 50 (excluding VAT and overnight stay).

The financial contribution for company participants is € 2,295 (excluding VAT and overnight stay). For WCM members with a Platinum, Gold or Silver membership a special rate per participant of € 2,065 applies (excluding VAT and overnight stay) for a maximum of three participants per company. For other participants, the regular company rate of € 2,295 (excluding VAT and overnight stay) applies.

More information on the workshops and participation can be found on our website www.wcmsummerschool.org or requested via info@wcmsummerschool.org.

We would like to see students from Civil Engineering represented in Stroe this summer!

Kind regards,

Prof. dr. Henk Akkermans (directeur WCM)
