Brand new UT field lab!
The brand-new UT FieldLab on campus will open on October 2nd. You probably have observed the ongoing construction activities at the UT.F premises last year. What you may not know is that CE researchers have established four new facilities:
- Utility Mapping Site. At this site, we develop, test and train new technologies to detect buried underground infrastructures
- Aeolean Transport House. Here, we study behaviour of beach sand under varying wind and moisture conditions
- Soil Mechanics & Geophysical Site. Here, we characterise cavities and underground soil properties under varying groundwater and vegetation conditions
- Greening Infrastructure. In our visitor’s centre, we study the effect of green walls and roofs on energy consumption and the building climate.
The FieldLab is worldwide-unique outdoor facility where research, education, and societal impact come together. It functions as a research, innovation and education lab to enable experimentation and support the development of new skills for students, researchers and professionals.
All CE-students receive this special invitation to the opening of the field. Not only will you be able to take a look at the four new CE-outdoor labs, but you can also check out the ten other new experimental sections that are located above and below ground. No preregistration is needed.
What to expect:
- Starting from 14:00, you’re welcome to join a guided tour (drop-in, every 10 minutes).
- Around 15:30, we’ll gather for the official programme.
- At 16:00, the central part begins with short talks from key contributors and stakeholders, followed by the official opening by Rector Prof. Veldkamp.
Best, the UT Fieldlab Founders and Expert Team Members.
