Professionals who work in big projects do recognize this: with a lot of ambition and high expectations, you join the project team. But after a while you start wondering: why am I working here and what is the best way to deliver and... survive? Although projects often do have clear goals and a good reason for existence, they turn out to become a 'gravel pit' where different interests get in competition and team members have to get into a survival of the fittest mode to save their dignity and reputation, and - eventually - to deliver.
