Van Oord: Upgrading the Twente Canals
While Van Oord is mainly known for its large dredging and offshore wind projects, we also take on challenging projects in the Netherlands. One of these is around you: the upgrading of the Twente Canals. After upgrading, larger and deeper ships can enter Twente. This decreases shipping costs and CO2 emissions.

In this project, Van Oord is responsible for the design and execution of dredging works and the construction of bank and bottom protections. The works have to be executed while the canal is still in use, in an area that is very sensitive to groundwater effects. This requires some unique constructions and working methods. In the lunch lecture, Daan Kampherbeek will tell you about the project, the work that Van Oord does and the challenges faced.
