Look After Your Friends

The Student Union and the UT psychologists have set up a training about student mental wellbeing together.

Why? Your time as a student can be a lot of fun but it can also be difficult sometimes. A lot of students who experience problems regarding their wellbeing, such as stress, depression or anxiety, first turn to their friends to talk about it before talking to anyone else. For a friend this can be difficult sometimes and the situation might raise a lot of questions: ‘how can I help my friend without letting it affect myself too much?’, ‘how can I listen to someone in a way that makes them feel heard?’, ‘what does a certain diagnosis actually mean?’, and many more. To help students in answering these questions, a training has been set up by the psychologists of the UT, in collaboration with the SU.

What? The training consists of 2 sessions of both 1,5 hours, which are complementing and can therefore not be followed separately. During these two sessions, the following topics will be discussed:

  • Practical tips on looking after your friend
  • Supporting a friend through the student journey
  • Understanding your friend’s diagnosis
  • Knowing your services: getting professional help in- and outside of the UT

Furthermore, participants will receive an extensive guide with information and tips on how to look after their friends and themselves. You can find more information on the website of the Student Union (https://su.utwente.nl/Union-services/verenigingen/look-after-your-friend/) and on the Canvas page of this training (https://canvas.utwente.nl/enroll/XH3GJB).
