Educational Update on MSc CEM/CME Curriculum
Dear students,
For next academic year, our MSc CEM/CME curriculum will be revised. The main reason for the revision is to better guide students to become a specialist in a specific field (do more track-specific courses). Before, each tracks had two profile; for some tracks both profiles were relevant for later professional careers, and for another the profiles connected to different specialisms. Furthermore, after 10 years it was time to reconsider the Master curriculum. Several students were involved in the revision process.
Main changes
In the academic year 2024-2025 and before, we had 4 tracks each including 2 profiles. For the academic year 2025-2026 we will have 5 tracks without profiles:
- Construction Management & Engineering (slightly adapted from a former track)
- Transport Engineering & Management (slightly adapted from a former track)
- Water Engineering & Management (slightly adapted from a former track)
- Sustainability & Resilience (formerly a profile within the track Integrated civil engineering systems)
- Civil Engineering Structures (formerly a profile within the track Integrated civil engineering systems)
The names of these tracks may still be subject to changes.
Rules
Each track will offer at least 16 track courses, of which at least 10 courses (50 EC) must be chosen by the student. Next, students should choose 3 CEM electives (15 EC) that can be chosen from the whole CEM-curriculum overview. The number of free electives (3 courses), the preparation courses for the MSc Thesis and the MSc thesis project itself remain the same, but now students in the Sustainability & Resilience track and the Civil Engineering Structures track will explicitly be offered topics for their MSc thesis in these specific areas.
Detailed changes per track
An overview of detailed changes per track can be found in the document “Overview Changes CEM-CME curriculum 2025-2026”
MSc CEM/CME curriculum 2025-2026
By clicking the image of the curriculum below, you will see the draft of the revised 2025-2026 curriculum. Some small changes may still be made in the upcoming weeks (such as names of tracks/courses/coordinators or the order in which courses are mentioned, emphasizing their relevance for the track). The final version of the curriculum overview is expected end June. On the short term, the descriptions of the tracks and a job profile will be added on the websites and Canvas pages of CEM/CME. These are still under construction. If you have any questions about these changes, please feel free to contact coordinator-ce@utwente.nl
