Excursion Saxion

During this excursion we will look at how sustainable water management technology has been applied in the renovation of the Klimaatplein at Saxion in Enschede. Where the square previously consisted of 3600 m2 of paved stones, it is now only 2000 m2. The number of trees has increased and the number of seats has increased. The shade and greenery provide a cooling effect on the square in hot weather. These changes contribute to a higher livability and biodiversity on the Climate Square: a more pleasant place for our students and employees to stay. The Saxion Climate Square is not just a meeting place; it is a cleverly designed water management solution. The use of Raingardens prevents clean rainwater from entering the sewer system unnecessarily.

We also pass by the TRENDY Water Center, where water is sustainably purified. The next step is to even upgrade it to drinking water quality. This is all possible at the TRENDY Water Centre where research is being done on this. Ultimately with the goal of relieving the central drinking water and sewage system.
