How are BIM models transforming tunnel renovation projects?
Witteveen+Bos is working on the South Holland Tunnel Renovation Project (Project Tunnelrenovaties Zuid-Holland, PTZ) for Rijkswaterstaat. We are doing this together with Haskoning, in our long-standing strategic partnership TEC (Tunnel Engineering Consultants).
PTZ is one of the largest and most ambitious tunnel renovation programs in the Netherlands. Five national road tunnels are being renovated in parallel and in sequence, with one clear priority: keeping the Netherlands accessible!
Renovating decades-old infrastructure often means working with incomplete or outdated asset information. This uncertainty has historically led to delays, unexpected risks, and rising costs. PTZ therefore takes a different, innovative approach:
By using advanced BIM models, the existing condition of each tunnel is mapped in detail during the preparation phase, providing us with deeper insights into the true scope of work, minimizing surprises during construction, and enabling smarter, more sustainable decision-making.
Curious how digital innovation is reshaping large-scale infrastructure renovation?
Join our lunch lecture and discover how BIM is turning uncertainty into predictability!
