Lunch lecture: Rail and urban area development project in Bergen, Norway
Presented by: Sweco
The ‘Bybanen i Bergen’ (light rail in Bergen) and its immediate surroundings are in the process of an extensive redevelopment. Sweco is proud to be in charge of the design and engineering of this project in commission of Bybanen Utbygging, comprising the (re)construction of about 10 km of new light rail (tram) track, about half of which in open air and the other half in tunnels, as well as a lot of surrounding urban area development.
The new rail line still runs through densely built up and populated areas, which for a length of 10 km guarantees a very high engineering complexity. This complexity is reflected by the fact that nearly all thinkable design and engineering disciplines are involved in this project, ranging from rail engineers to systems engineers, from hydrologists to landscape architects, from BIM-modellers to structural and geotechnical engineers… and many more. During the lecture the challenges and solutions of the project will be explained.
