Pizza Lunch!!!
A geotechnical challenge: urban development on a small area in the old city center of Groningen.
For the construction of a new mixed use apartment block at the 'Merckt' in Groningen two complex problems need to be solved.
The first challenge is to demolish an old building, including its basement, without the vibrations damaging the nearby buildings.
The second challenge is to construct a watertight construction pit without causing vibrations. On top of that, the construction pit should also be resilient to damage during construction and cost effective.
Fugro and its partners have overcome these challenges by using an integral approach. By using local knowledge and Fugro's expert knowledge and monitoring, the risks during the demolition and construction can be reduced.
